7 day painting course, Sicily (#714)
Echoes of ancient civilisations are to be found in every part of this extraordinary island. Sicily has been occupied over the centuries by Greeks, Romans, Bizantines, Arabs, Normans and Spanish all of whom have left traces and influences which can be seen in the Sicily of today. This is a very special part of Italy, an island with a unique sense of mystery and romance. Archaeologically this is a fascinating country. The landscape is varied and dramatic, and the Sicilian people are friendly and welcoming.
Selinute: The ruins of this ancient city are amongst the most striking archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. Excavations have brought to light eight ancient Greek temples, with classical Doric columns and fortifications, dating back to the 6th century BC. By any stretch of the imagination the landscape here is impressive. The romantic ruins overlooking the sea instil a sense of history, a feeling of awe and admiration for those who built these truly amazing structures. A short talk on the history of the temples will be given by keen historian and artist Andrew Brownfoot. Castelvetrano: A farming and fishing town situated on a hill terrace 200 metres above sea level, 3km from the town is the Romanesque Norman church of Trinita' di Delia Email the ArtistTell A Friend About This ListingOther Workshops by Tuscany in the Frame
