Make your own fused glass jewellery in this hidden (#682)
Marie Simberg-Hoglund makes glass jewellery and gorgeous vases and bowls in the rainforest studio that she shares with husband, Ola.
Ola is to be seen on most days during the winter, turning and shaping molten glass with strength and dexterity as it goes in and out of huge furnaces to eventually emerge as a poetic expression of light and form. Marie's jewellery-making equipment requires much less effort and uses smaller kilns but is equally skilled. These skills will be offered to students on October 9 during a one-day workshop at her studio in the Whyanbeel Valley, north of Port Douglas. Beginners with no previous experience will enjoy this perfect introduction to fused glass with lots of fun! They be encouraged to experiment with different techniques to create their own unique, fused glass jewellery. Four projects using different techniques will result in beautiful pendants or brooches to take home. All pieces made during the workshop will be fused and annealed in the kiln over night, polished and finished when cooled and available for collection from the Sugar Wharf on Sunday 11th October (or postage can be organized). During this workshop students will learn how to - safely cut glass, assemble pieces and use stringers and powdered glass in designs to create pieces that are 1. tack fused 2. fully fused with elements on top 3. fully fused with elements between a layers of opaque and clear glass. 4. fully fused using glass paint. They will then learn how to prepare the kiln and fuse pieces as well as finish them to result in unique, wearable glass. Marie would be delighted if you could join her for lunch at her home in the rainforest. Email the ArtistTell A Friend About This ListingOther Workshops by Surprising Tropical Art discoveries
