Your own postcards from paradise? What a romantic notion.

This workshop teaches a very practical application of quite simple skills to the idea of sending a holiday message from a beautiful place to family and friends...wish you were here...
Using vinyl in place of traditional lino, you will learn how to make simple blocks, print them with ink and then hand-colour them using watercolour.

Your instructor, Theo Tremblay, is an experienced printmaker, lecturer and teacher from whom you will gain much, quite apart from the obvious technical aspects of the workshop.
He has said this about the one day course - "During this beginners' workshop in printmaking, you will learn to make a design in reverse, carve into 200 x 250mm vinyl using hand-carving tools, print the block on a basic press, then colour the print with watercolour, using a variety of brush, stencil and spray techniques".

Students will be helped to master simple techniques of printmaking including safe approaches to using carving tools, machinery, inks and solvents and to produce a relief print on vinyl in a fun, step-by-step approach.

Students will gain confidence in producing a hand-coloured linocut from design to finish in a supportive, safe environment, extending manual skills in printing while developing intellectual knowledge of colour, form, line and texture.

This printmaking workshop aims to assist students with

1. correct, step-by-step information to create a relief print using basic printing materials in a safe,hazard-free environment with a supportive group of learners.
2. ways to design, print and hand colour/produce a basic relief (vinylcut) print.
3. achieving appreciation and confidence in basic relief printing while gaining insight into the works of amateur and professional artists who produce them.

What a special surprise awaits the recipients of your postcards from paradise - but I wonder how many people will keep theirs to frame as true "souvenirs" of their holiday in Port Douglas?

Perhaps you could do both?
