Make you Own Handforged knife (#607)
One day workshop with Steven and Robyn Martin
You will start the day by handforging your own blade from a red-hot piece of steel. A wide range of sizes and shapes are possible. The knife is then roughly ground out and brass bolsters and a native timber handle attached. More shaping and finishing will be needed before the final polish and sharpening. You will take home a fabulous razor-sharp knife made from quality carbon steel, with lots of laughs and lessons along the way. You can also have a go at our axe throwing wall and huge swing. Enjoy a free lunch and complimentary end-of-day drinks and nibbles and meet the miniature horses and all the other critters. About the tutors Steven has a background in design, engineering and manufacturing. When Robyn and Steve moved to the West Coast, their aim was to work from home and do something that was creative and interesting in this wonderful rugged setting. Knifemaking began as a backyard hobby with a rusty piece of steel found on a beech which Steven made into his first knife many years ago. When travellers started showing a keenness to have a go as well, "Barrytown knifemaking" got going. There are now thousands of our knives around the world.
