Beginning with a brief introduction of the history of artists books and the plethora of forms these artworks can take, you will then explore the nuts and bolts of creating these stunning, often one-of-a-kind artworks. From altered books and simple concertina fold books to complex and decorative hand-stitched constructions, you are sure to find inspiration for your own unique artworks.

Your tutor, Jana Liptak, is an experienced maker of artists’ books, and will provide dedicated tutoring in techniques tailored to suit your ideas.

Room 13 International Summer School offers a stimulating programme of courses, creative workshops, lectures and events for artists of all ages and experience.

All Summer School courses are based in, or very near, the village of Strontian, Scotland. Our summer programme is centred in Arainn Shuaineirt (The Sunart Centre). This marvellous building (which becomes Ardnamurchan High School in term time) is fully equipped for all arts practice, and also houses a theatre and library.

Accommodation
Both catered and self-catering accommodation is provided by Ariundle Centre, approximately 1 mile from Sunart Centre. The Bunkhouse at Ariundle sleeps up to 8, 4 or 2 persons per room. Facilities for guests include washrooms, a shared kitchen & drying room. All rooms are clean and comfortable, providing spacious 4 star bunkhouse accommodation for individuals, groups and families. The catered holiday package includes your choice of continental or cooked breakfast, plus an evening meal at Ariundle Centre restaurant. The self catering option includes complimentary continental breakfast at Ariundle Centre restaurant. Packed lunches can be prepared on request at a cost of £6.00 per person per day. There are also a wide range of local B&Bs and hotels in and around Strontian for participants who would prefer to arrange their own accommodation.
