One day workshop with Stu McDougall
Learn to turn, carve or shape some of New Zealand’s beautiful native timbers. Starting with a piece of rough wood or maybe a piece of driftwood you have found from a local beach or river bed you will learn to sculpt your own unique piece. During the day Stu will teach you various techniques that will enable you to create the design of your choice. Projects include making spoons, knives, servers, ladles, bowls and other small objects.
During the day you will also learn about New Zealand woods. The workshop is based in Stu’s home which has stunning views across Nelson city.
About the tutor
Stu has always been interested in woodwork and creating functional and sculptural objects. As a trained teacher, he enjoys sharing his skills with others. He chooses to work with New Zealand native and exotic timbers as they have their own special beauty and where possible he uses recycled wood and ‘found’ pieces from beaches and rivers.
