Experience the Red Shoe Magic from The View

Jennifer Schell,
Managing Editor BC Wine Trails Magazine - Canada

Experience the Red Shoe Magic from The ViewPerched hillside in stunning South East Kelowna overlooking the farms, city and lake below is one of the hottest young wineries, The View.

The View Winery

The name obviously reflects the grandeur of its location, but on a more philosophical note, President Jennifer Turton-Molgat adds, “The View also reflects the differing points of view or perspectives that are inevitable and part of the fabric in a multi-generational, family owned business…like layers of complexity in wine - they inevitably make for a more interesting experience!”

In keeping with their unique brand, there lies mystique in the sexy, head turning label – a red high heel shoe corking a bottle of wine. Exciting, fun, but it also holds deeper meaning to its creators. Jennifer explains the symbolism: ”Our label represents different points of view or perspectives. The person looking at it of course picks up on the obvious sexual innuendo, but then on second glance might wonder about the scene.” There is always more to a story. Jennifer also draws inspiration from another set of red shoes - Dorothy’s! The famous shoes worn in Wizard of Oz represented a magical journey of discovery and homecoming.

President Jennifer Turton-Molgat toasts with a glass of their Red Shoe Pinotage

Jennifer and husband Kent, with support from her family, the Turton’s who are prolific farmers in this region, are enjoying their newest venture as a winery. Along with French Winemaker Marie-Therese Duarte, they are making magic in the cellar. The Gewürztraminer and Pinotage created a buzz on the shelves last year with more of that with the addition of a Pinotage Rosé! This pretty in pink wine will tout a pink shoe on its label, and is “strawberry fabulous” says Jennifer.

1200 cases are to be released from this boutique winery in 2010. With 45 acres currently in production and 5 more acres of Pinotage being planted in the Spring, there is plenty of room to grow – and they will. Plans for a tasting room also in the works. www.theviewwinery.com
